Xi’an
Xi'an. The total urban population is approx. 10 million.
Xi'an is one of the Chinese Four Great Ancient Capitals, having held the position under several of the most important dynasties in Chinese history, Xi'an is now the second most popular tourist destination in China. The city is the starting point of the Silk Road and home to the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, both of which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Architecture is similar to the other cities; everything is new, modern, clean with a lot of greeneries. In the centre of city, the architecture is diverse but on the outskirts are high rise buildings in groups of 20-30 build with the same design. Variation could be only in heights.
We came from Beijing to Xi’an by “bullet”, high-speed train, very popular mean of transport in China. Speed was 301-305km/h.
Xi’an
Terracotta Warriors
The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures representing the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China. It was buried with the emperor in 210–209 BCE with the purpose of protecting him in his afterlife.
The figures, dating from approximately the late 200s BCE, were discovered in 1974 by local farmers. The figures vary in height according to their rank, the tallest being the generals. The figures include warriors, chariots and horses. Estimates from 2007 were that the three pits containing the Terracotta Army hold more than 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses, and 150 cavalry horses, the majority of which remain in situ in the pits near Qin Shi Huang's mausoleum. Other, non-military terracotta figures were found in adjoining pits, including officials, acrobats, strongmen, and musicians.
Terakota armja
