Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu is the capital of Sabah. It’s located on the northwest coast of Borneo. Kota Kinabalu is a more modern city, with quite a few newer buildings. The Sheraton and Hilton hotels dominate the skyline and judging by the yachts in the bay and the golf courses, it’s a place where tourists with deeper pockets tend to stay.

Kota Kinabalu je glavni grad Sabaha. Nalazi se na severozapadnoj obali Bornea. Kota Kinabalu je moderniji grad. Dosta zgrada novijeg datuma.

Kota Kinabalu City Mosque

The Kota Kinabalu City Mosque is one of Sabah's most famous landmarks, located on an artificial lagoon near the Kota Kinabalu coast. Because of its striking white-and-blue color and mirror-like reflection, it has earned the nickname 'Floating Mosque,' making it a popular spot for both worshippers and tourists.

Kota Kinabalu Gradska Dzamija

Manukan Island

Manukan Island is the second largest island off the coast of Kota Kinabalu. It is one of the most popular day trip destinations thanks to its clear waters, coral reefs, and sandy beaches. You can get there by speedboat from Kota Kinabalu. On the island, there is a 'weather station made out of a coconut.'

Mari-Mari Cultural Village

Mari-Mari Cultural Village is located approximately 25 minutes from the city. Each house was built by descendants of the tribes they represent and offers a truly genuine experience. Not only does this village portray these tribes through the architectural genius of their traditional homes but also through a range of simulated lives of the olden epoch by the residents of the village.

Selo Mari-Mari

Houses

Bamboo cane is the basic material for building houses, both outside and inside. Everything is made from bamboo cane: walls, floors, basic furniture (beds, shelves, hearths, 'inter-floor structures'). The roof structure is made of bamboo covered with leaves. Everything is very simple and clean. The weather is mostly warm and humid, so windows and doors are covered only with curtains.

Kuce

Rooms

The parents' room is separate, that is, it has a 'door' made of a curtain. The rest of the family sleeps in the central, large room while the girl's room is on the 'upper floor' or gallery. You get to the gallery by a ladder. The father of the family is in charge of the ladder; in the evening he sets it up so the daughter can go up, and in the morning so she can come down from the gallery. This is for 'protection.' The daughter has no choice, even if she doesn't want this kind of 'protection.'

Stairs

Leading up to the house entrance are “steps” made from cut logs so that the width of each step is basically the same as the width of the log; about 20cm. Nowadays, all the houses in the village have extra, simple steps or ladders, but only for the tourists.

Stepenice

The enemy's skull on the porch

On the porches more the skulls of the enemy. The natives are known as "bounty hunters". They believed that the spirit of the enemy would help them if they cut off his head (while he was alive) and placed his skull hanging in the porch of the house. They first stun the enemy with an arrow soaked in poison and then, they cut off the head, while he is still alive.

Burying the remains of family members

Family members are buried on the property, but only temporarily. After some time, roughly 2 years, the grave is opened and the bones are moved into an urn, which is then attached to a tree on the property. Usually, there’s one urn per tree.

Burial on the property is meant to prevent heirs from selling the land, so the property always stays within the family.

Sahranjivanje ostataka clanova porodice
