Italiju nikada nisam dozivljavao kao turisticku zemlju. Tamo smo odlazili cesto i bez nekog pravog razloga. Koliko puta smo kao studenti, igrajuci karte popodne odlucivali da odemo do Trsta. Bilo je dovoljno samo petnaestak minuta da sidjemo do stance i uhvatimo vecernji voz kojim bi sutradan ujutru stigli do Trsta. Osecali smo se kao kod kuce. Mozda je i to razlog sto iz italije nemam mnogo fotografija.
I have never perceived Italy as a tourist country. We went there often and without any real reason. How many times as students, playing cards in the afternoon, did we decide to go to Trieste? It was enough to just take about fifteen minutes to get to the station and catch the evening train that would take us to Trieste the next morning. We felt at home there. Perhaps that is also the reason why I don’t have many photos from Italy.

Početkom 70-ih godina često sam išao u Italiju, tačnije u Trst. To su uglavnom bile dvodnevne ekskurzije i „glavna atrakcija“ je bio Ponte Rosso, otvorena pijaca gde smo kupovali farmerke (do kojih je bilo tesko doci u Beogradu u to vreme ili su bile dosta skupe). Provodio sam mnogo vremena lutajući po gradu tražeći ploče koje nisam mogao da nađem u Beogradu (kantri, bluz, soul itd.). Tada sam otkrio veoma lepo mesto u Trstu; Mirmar.
Trieste
In the early 70’s I used to go to Italy, specifically Trieste, multiple times. It was mostly 1–2-day trips and the “main attraction” was Ponte Rosso, open market where we used to buy jeans (which was very expensive in Belgrade at that time). I was spending a lot of time roaming around the city searching for records that I couldn’t find in Belgrade (country music, blues, soul etc.). At that time, I discovered a very nice point in Trieste; Mirmar.

Bari sam posetio na putu iz Grčke, gde sam stigao brodom (Patras – Bari preko Krfa). Nisam proveo mnogo vremena tamo, ali ono što sam primetio je da je to bilo prilično drugačije mesto u poređenju sa Severnom Italijom; tiše i, nekako, opušteno, relaksirajuće...

II visited Bari on the way back from Greece where I reached by boat (Patras – Bari via Corfu). I didn’t spend much time there but, what I noticed was that it was quite different place compared to North Italy; quieter and, somehow, easy-going, relaxing…

Proveo sam više vremena tamo kupujući ploče (kao obično kada idem u inostranstvo) nego obilazeći turističke atrakcije. Nažalost, nisam iskoristio lepo i sunčano vreme da napravim više fotografija. Zapravo, u tom trenutku nisam bio zainteresovan za "dokumentovanje" svog boravka u Rimu.

I spent more of my time there shopping for records (as usual when going abroad) than visiting tourist attractions. Unfortunately, I didn’t use nice and sunny weather to make more photos. Actually, at that point, I was not keen in “documenting” my visit there.
